在有偵測器煙霧水煮東西會引來警報器大響嗎?

煙霧偵測器的運作原理：使用放射性元素鋂-241，會進行α衰變，放射出的γ射線很少，對人體的危害很小。衰變產生的輻射通過電離室，也就是兩片電極間充滿空氣的區間，電極間有著少量的電流。煙霧進入電離室後會吸收輻射出來的α粒子，減少電離的程度，因此改變流通的電流，從而觸發警報。相比光學煙霧探測器，電離探測器較為便宜，還能夠測得大小不足以產生足夠光學散射的煙霧粒子。然而，這種探測器容易發生誤報。

水加熱後所生成的白煙，為空氣中散佈的小水滴（液體易變成氣體），因為不會吸收α粒子，所以不會觸發警報；其他物質燃燒產生的煙霧，主要成分為碳（固體），會吸收α粒子，所以會觸發警報。
